Diet Blunders That Slow Metabolism

Did you know the temperature of the water you drink may make a difference in your weight loss?  This article I found on MSN, gives many wonderful tips on easy ways aid in your weight loss!! 

Because Medifast foods and Take Shape for Live, were developed by a doctor, you can see how the program of 5 small meals and one lean and green meal helps you to lose weight.  I use to starve to be thin, consequently my metabolism is slow as a snail.  Now I can EAT and loss!  What a concept!!
This article gives great tips about this diet BLUNDERS:
  1. You don't eat enough
  2. You avoid caffeine
  3. Your carbs are white
  4. Your water is room temperature
  5. Your food is covered with pesticides
  6. Your meal lacks protein
  7. You've had one tipple too many
  8. You're not getting enough dairy

Ladies eat your calcium, eat frequently, have that cup of java (or tea in my case), drink cold water, eat organic veggies, as in Take Shape for Life eat your protein, do drink calories - a glass of orange juice - eat the orange, alcohol - limit your drinks to one, and take calcium or as I do chew calcium.  The chews can be easier on your stomach!

Have Your Cake and Eat It Too - but not too much

What is a cake recipe doing on here you ask?  You can have your treat for your birthday or other special occasion.  The key here is NO LEFTOVERS!  If you have a cake for your birthday, eat ONE piece and make sure you have somewhere or someone to give the rest of the cake.  As we all know, if you have it in the refrigerator it will disappear even if it is one bite at a time.  Plan ahead where or who you can donate your cake leftovers.  Starving students, people at nursing homes, we all know some that could use the leftovers and be happy you gave them your precious birthday cake!

I love whipped cream is great for that special occasion!  You can use whipped cream stablizer (I use the one sold at German stores).  You can add as little as much sweetener as you like.  You can add cocoa for chocolate whipped cream, or flavors of fruits, coconut, endless possibilities.  Decorating can be done with icing or a combination of frosting and whipped cream, or all whipped cream.
 Hint:  Place straws in you cake about 4 for a 10" cut off tips to make level with top of cake then cover with icing.  This helps with transportation.  The straws are better than dowels, faster, no wood in the cake, etc.   I only use a dowel when connecting several layers of cake, as in a stacked wedding cake. 
Hint:  Freeze your cake overnight and you can slice paper thin layers that don't crack or break when you move them.  It also helps the cake set up because of the cold.

Emotional Eating and Your Job

In this economy many people are facing jobless, many more need training to obtain a job.   Whether  you want to change jobs or you need a new job, community colleges offer many opportunities to advance, change or train for a new career.  When you are facing these tough economic times it is easy to let emotional eating take over. 
  Spend your time more constructively than eating.  Have you spent hours in sports, or involved in work and then you realized how long it has been since you ate?  When you are at home with the kitchen right there, do you spend more time tempted to eat than when you are busy at something else?  Distraction is a key.  Once I saw a family with several children, eating at a restaurant.  It was across from Disneyland and the kids were tired and hungry.  When they started to become impatient the mother had all the children doing a little game or quiet song.  Immediately the children were distracted from their hunger and their moods changed from grumpy to happy.  This can work for you also.  Once someone told me to take up a dirty habit, like gardening or painting to help keep your weight down.
   Don't just sit their moaning about your jobloss or how you want a new career, do something!  Community college, here in California offer many excellent choices for training at minimal cost.  Train from your home! Diet Busters

Diet Busters

At MSN I found an article on diet busters.  It is loaded with good information, exactly 25 diet busters.  Can you guess what item which item this might be?  "an entire day's worth of calories and almost three and a half times the daily limit for saturated fat."
What lesson do we learn from this?  Read the label, ask or look up on the web the Nutrition Guide for where you are or/will be eating.  Be sure and watch the video!

Have Your Cake and Eat It Too

In Starbucks the other day, I decided to treat myself for being good.  While they made my tea, I met someone when I overheard her say she ate two donuts to her colleague.  I gave her my card Take Shape for Life business card.   I told her I was going to get one petite scone but when the cashier made a mistake and thought I wanted two, I changed my order to three scones, Starbucks has a discount when you buy three. On the way home, I felt bad because I had not been a good example.  I thought I should have told her about one of my tricks.  I took the scones home.  I ate one and put the rest in the freezer because I know out of sight out of mind.  It is with tricks like this one, I am able to keep my weight under control and still keep my weight under control. 
This is only for those on the Maintenance program if you are on the 5 in one Take Shape for Life program you need to strictly maintain Ketosis.
With weight loss "no pain no gain does not apply!"

Brownies

Just a quick note.  How do you like the new Brownies from Medifast.  It took me a few tries to get the cooking down.  I have a very fast microwave.  I ended up cooking it for 2min and 40seconds at level 2. 
I also have a few enhancements.  Make "icing" for your brownie!  Mix a little of the Chocolate Pudding with water until it has the thickness of icing then make the rest for eating later.  When the brownie is done cook a few minutes and top with "pudding icing."
Having trouble getting back on track.  Make this a convenient as you can by keeping ready mix shakes in the frig. When that craving hits drink a shake and wait a bit.  My cravings are gone or slight in a few minutes.  Remember to drink slow 15mins to finish while drinking a glass of water.

Emotions make us eat or not eat depending on our make-up.  Of course, if weight loss is a problem for you. then you know how emotional eating can ruin your best intentions.  That is why I am on the lookout for useful information on our weight loss stumbling blocks.  Read this report from Mayo Clinic for useful information on how to control your emotions. Tricks
  1. Plan a menu, even if you are the only one who likes it, with at least some low fat, low calorie foods
  2. Don't butter your vegetables or pour cream sauce over them.  You are turning a great food into  high fat nightmare.
  3. Go out if you can and cut your meal in half.  Take home the other half for another meal.
  4. Send home with those who had to have those high calorie, high fat foods.  Leftovers will ruin all those pounds you lost.
  5. Medifast pudding, try crushing the cinnamon pretzels and using vallina pudding to make "pumpkin pie" get some pumpkin pie spice and add a little flavoring.  You can find it sugar free syrup
  6. use a salad plate on top of your dinner palate and use only that plate for your meal
  7. Keep busy, do the dishes, etc while everyone is munching those bad for you foods.
  8. Keep up with the 5 meals a day and one meal that is your Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner
  9. Take up a dirty hobby.  if you are in the garden in the dirt you wont be eating!
  10. Take a walk with your company.  Get moving!
  11. If you make a mistake just start over again.  Don't let the "I'll start tomorrow and never do it" syndrome take hold.
  12. Reward yourself for being "good" with a new outfit, DVD, go out and shop, (watch the budget) for new clothes for that new slim you.
  13. Finally have a Wonderful Thanksgiving and God Bless.
